Atom South kent Lighting 1 stood tall in the third period as
Mooretown makes a valiant push.

Lightning Defenseman #9 Owen Brown keeps Mooretown Black player from getting near the net while Lightning # 17 Ashton Clark races in to assist.
With another great offensive start the Lighting raced to an early 3 – 0 lead before allowing the Mooretown Blacks to get on the board. The Defensive pairing of Josh Flemington and Shane Brown was a strong part of the reason. Not until there was 3:04 left of the first period did Mooretown score, but before the period was over Lightning forward #17 Ashton Clark scored to regain the 3 goal lead.
In the second period the Lighting got into a little penalty trouble as #4 Camden Blackburn was charged for body checking at 6:28. While killing off the 5 on 4 penalty Lightning defenseman #6 Logan Frazer made a beautiful tape to tape pass springing #8 Brady Pook and he made no mistake scoring the game’s only shorthanded goal. It was the great efforts of Danielle Leque, Owen Brown and Carter Gates that made it possible for the Lightning to finish the second period with a stellar 8-3 lead.
The third period proved a little more difficult as Mooretown caught the Lightning team off guard by scoring 3 quick goals. With under 6 minutes left in the period and Mooretown’s # 9 Jeffery Carpenter in the penalty box for tripping, Lighting center #10 Colin Day scored and made it 10-6. Mooretown Blacks never gave up and kept pushing hard to the end. The whole Lighting team stood tall keeping most of the play to the outside or down in their opponents end. With 7 seconds left in the third period Mooretown Black #8 Garrett Glover (6 goals on the night) skated in for a final shot only to be stopped by the heroic goaltending of Danielle Betterly. The Final score was 10-9.
