Missed assignments and Missed opportunities
This past Saturday your Sobeys Lightning team made the trip to Wallaceburg to play their very last game of the regular season.  In their previous meeting with Wallaceburg the game was extremely close and with 47 seconds remaining the Lightning scored and made it a 3 -2 win.

Lightning #7 Drew Rumble and #14 Dani Betterly defend against a strong Wallaceburg team

In the overall standings Wallaceburg was in 2nd and the Sobeys Lightning 3rd.  Should the lightning win today they would leap over Wallaceburg for a 2nd place regular season finish.
Wallaceburg took it to the Lightning early and opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from #11 Justin McNeil 19 seconds into the game. They then scored a second goal less than 2 minutes later.  The Lightning were quick to get one goal back when #4 Camden Blackburn passed the puck out of the corner where #5 Josh Flemington was standing in the slot. Josh’s shot was stopped but #3 Vincent Vaughan slammed in the rebound.  In the second period Wallaceburg took advantage of Lightning penalty trouble and scored 2 power play goals and took a commanding 4 -1 lead into the third. The Lightning penalty trouble never stopped there as #7 Drew Rumble was called for tripping 1:19 into the third and Wallaceburg scored a third power play goal at the 12:56 mark. With the score now out of hand and Wallaceburg leading 6 -1 the penalty tide began to shift the other way and Wallaceburg found themselves a player short for 10 of the remaining 12 minutes.  But the momentum never seemed to switch.  Lightning #10 Colin Day managed to score at 9:38, assisted by #8 Brady Pook and the Lightning manage 1 power play goal when #7 Drew Rumble redeemed himself when #11 Carter Gates set him up for a goal at 7:55. But that was it.  The Lightning just didn’t capitalize on their opportunities.
In the end Wallaceburg won 7-3.
It’s not over Wallaceburg.  The Sobeys Lightning team will no doubt meet you in the playoffs and you will have your hands full I’m sure!
Sobeys Lightning Player of the game was Goalie #1 Logan Fraser.  You Rock Logan!
