PeeWee LL1: Families First Wrap Up
Kimberley’s Boys in Blue Traveled to Windsor this past weekend to partake in the festivities of the Families First Tournament Hosted by Riverside Minor Hockey.

Game one was a blur with our boys posting a 7-1 win over Riverside George T. White. The Player of the game was Graysen Anderson. Goals were scored by Graysen (2), James (2), Johnny, Owen and Carter. Assists went to Johnny (2), K-Mart ™(2),Carter, Graysen, James, Liam, Colin and Ricky. After the game everyone went back to the hotel for a quiet evening which included but was not limited to the Solitare Tournament in the dining room and story time by the fire in the Lobby, fun was had by most.

Game 2 saw Eyesie shut out Brevon Concrete Cutting in a 8-0 Win, he was selected as the player of the game. Goals went to Colin (2), K-Mart™ (2),  Carter,  Ryelly Hill, Owen and James. Assists went to K-Mart™(2), Owen, Colin, James, Graysen, Joe, Alex, Zach and Carter. After the game the team went back to the hotel for an incredible feast put out by our team sponsor Kimberley’s Hearing Clinic.

Game 3 followed and the boys in blue just kept clicking en-route to a 10-2 win over Primo Pizza. Colin Day was selected as the player of the game. Goals went to Colin (3), James (2),  K-mart™ (2), Ryelly Hill, Graysen,  and Carter. Assists went to James (3), Graysen(2), Johnny, Colin and Carter. After the game it was back to the hotel for some swimming followed by a trip to the Karaoke Bar where Trainer Mike was really in his element. Sadly I was unable to be there, but I heard that his performances made international headlines. Those in attendance were treated to a medley of all the hits from Nirvana, Raffi, Mr. Mister and Billy Ray Cyrus.

Having outscored our opponents with an average of 8-1, winning all 3 round robin games we found ourselves ranked 3rd for the playoffs. We would be playing the Strathroy Blue Rockets. The game was tense from beginning to end. The Rockets struck first blood in the 2nd period. Our boys were able to rally with a goal midway through the 3rd by Colin. Neither team was able to score again in regulation. It was like we were playing against ourselves. We were forced to go to a 3 round shootout. Strathroy elected to shoot second. Captain James was the first shooter and was unable to score. Strathroy’s first shooter was able to score. Second up for the boys in Blue was the goal scoring machine known as K-Mart™. The Strathroy Goalie stood tall and made the huge save. If the Strathroy player scored on this attempt the game would be over.  Eyesie stoned the shooter to keep us alive. Now the pressure was on Zacko, he had to score to keep us alive in the tournament, with the weight of his entire team on his shoulders he skated in, pulled the patented Gordon Bombay triple deek and fired home the tying goal. Now the pressure was again on Isaac, he had to save everything to give his team a hope to win. Without even missing a beat he turned away the next shooter. This opened up the opportunity For Colin to give us the first lead of the game, unfortunately the Rockets goalie turned him down. Eyesie gave us another shot by turning away yet another Rockets shooter. This time Johnny Hockey skated in got the goalie down and out giving him a window; top glove side that he just barely missed. Eyesie kept us alive again turning away another Strathroy shooter. This opened up the loudest Taco Bell chant I have ever heard as Carter would be our next shooter. Unfortunately he was denied. The next Strathroy shooter pulled out an incredible move and was able to narrowly beat Isaac and eliminate the Boys in Blue.

I think that we may have been a bit tired from the activities away from the rink, and I think we probably would have won the tournament if we were early to bed and weren’t running the hotel none stop, and then I think if that’s what it would have took to win, it wouldn’t have been worth it. We win games all the time, we’ve even won a tournament this year, but the bonding and the funny tales the boys will be able to tell (or not tell) would not have happened and because of that, I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I really love this tournament because of the location, the teams, the hotel and most of all the team building it provides. I hope the boys don’t take the loss too hard and remember the fun we had with 3 big wins a shootout, team meals, the pool, the endless supply of pop, chips, pizza, Joe doing Joe things, and a bunch of other things that will not be repeated to protect the innocent.

We get back to work on Tuesday Evening at 5:55pm in Dresden to take on The Dresden Maroon team. I am sure our boys will be well rested, recovered and ready to continue our march to the Championship. Until then,

See ya at the Rink,

Coach Scott
