PeeWee LL1: Living the Life of Riley
Kimberley’s boys in blue traveled to the Lambton-Kent Memorial Agricultural Centre in Dresden to play game 2 of the playoffs.

We would be playing the mighty Dresden White team, a team that has had our number all season long. Eyesie returned to the net after a brief stint on the injured list. The boys played fast and furious and were able to take an early lead with Ryley K-mart™ netting the first goal from Johnny Hockey. Dresden was able to tie it up a few minutes later. Our boys started the 2nd period real strong with Colin scoring in the first minute of period 2. Then, with just under 4 minutes played in the 2nd our team went to a whole new level, Ryelly Hill carried the puck nearly end to end and tucked a beauty backhand into the Dresden Net for his first goal of the season, assisting on this historic goal was Ryley K-mart™. About 5 minutes passed and then tragedy struck. A Dresden breakaway that Eyesie was able to turn away resulted in re-aggravating an injury. Trainer Mike whisked his way to Issac like an ice dancer primed to compete in Pyeongchang 2018 to make the devastating diagnosis that our Allstar goalie would have to finish the game on the sidelines. The ref then informed us we would have 15 minutes to come up with a new goalie. With one goal, one assist and a penalty already under his belt for the game I decided to go with K-mart™ in the net. I asked the boys to focus on limiting the shots he would have to face for the rest of the game (nearly an entire half of a game). The boys worked their butts off, but Dresden wanted to exploit our perceived weakness and began throwing everything they could at our net. Pucks came in from center, the corner, the slot, you name it, and K-mart™ made heart-stopping save after heart-stopping save like a pro. He did give up one goal on a partial breakaway to a goal scoring machine from Dresden, but that was all they could muster when time expired. This was probably the biggest win our team has had all season, and one of the biggest wins I have ever been a part of. Our boys dug down as deep as they could and everyone played a huge role in it.

The pregame festivities were once again orchestrated by Trainer Mike, who coordinated the first annual South Kent Minor Hockey PeeWee Hop-Scotch Tournament. Not only did he coordinate this prestigious affair, he emerged as the Champion by narrowly defeating B.A. Joe Stoner in the finals. Please note: No scotch was consumed before, during or after the event. (at least to my knowledge).

Our next game is a rematch on Saturday Feb 10 at 7pm vs Dresden White in the friendly confines of Blenheim Memorial Arena. I look forward not only to what Trainer Mike has planned for us, but what this outstanding group of boys has in store. Until then..

See ya at the rink,

Coach Scott
