If Saturday afternoons game was a sneak peek into this coming weekend in Dresden the crowd has a lot to look forward too! The Dresden Maroons came into Lightning Territory firing on all cylinders.
Sobeys Lightning Forward #10 Colin Day sweeps around the net for his first of two wraparound goals.
From the moment the puck was dropped Dresden took control, scoring two goals in the first 44 seconds! It was not until there was 4:40 left in the first period before Sobeys Lightning forward #3 Vincent Vaughn could score and then tie it 17 seconds later with a sweet pass from #17 Ashton Clark. With 2:05 left on the clock and Lightnings #16 Shane Brown in the box for tripping, #10 Jake Bellamy put Dresden ahead once again. But that was the last goal Dresden could muster until late in the third period.
In the second period the Lightning did all the scoring with #10 Colin Day taking a pass from #7 Drew Rumble and scoring a nice wraparound goal at 5:31 and repeating it at 5:19. and then #17 Ashton Clark taking an outlet pass from #16 Shane Brown then dancing past the Dresden defence to score her first of two goals in the period. At one point in the second defensive pairing #7 Drew Rumble and #9 Owen Brown helped to keep the Maroons hemmed into their own end for almost two minutes. To cap off the period, #3 Vincent Vaughn scored while short handed taking a pass from line mate #11 Carter Gates and a 9-3 lead into the third.
With the exception of the goal scored single handily by #2 Paiton Desangher during the opening minute of the third, both the Lightning and the Maroons traded goals back and forth right up till there was 37 seconds in the game. When the smoke had settled the shots on goal for the game was Lightning 41 and Maroons 12.
This weekend, beginning Friday night and onto Sunday afternoon the Sobeys Lightning will be participating in the 2016 Mason Berube Hockey Mom's Memorial Tournament in Dresden.
