South Kent Lightning's Bantam Reps (Taco Bell) have had 3 very close games this past week.
It began in St. Mary's on Wednesday, with no score until 3:34 left in the 3rd period. Both teams had plenty of shots on net, but both teams had incredible defense and goal tending. South Kent persevered but were unable to hit the netting, leaving them with a loss of 1-0.
Friday, they hosted Strathroy Jr. Rockets at the Ridgetown barn in a highly charged game. Early in the first period, the Rockets scored but the Lightning never let up. Tensions were high in the second period. Both teams were fired up as they earned a combined 74 minutes in penalties. Third period was time to settle down and play hockey. Cory Beecroft scored a beauty goal 1 minute into the 3rd with Trenton Decook assisting to tie up the game. Unfortunately, Strathroy got the winning goal a few minutes later to leave the Lightning with another really close game, a loss nonetheless. It was one of their best passing games ever as they played fantastic hockey.
Sunday, the team travelled to Forest to face the Lambton Shores Predators. It took the first period for the players to get it together, but once they did, they were passing and skating great. At 2:30 in the second period, Cory Beecroft scored on the Predators unassisted. Onto period 3 where there were plenty of shots on net, but goaltenders were on their game. Finally, on a power play, the Lightning added another goal, courtesy of Kolby Caughy, with help from Mackenzie Anderson and Cory Beecroft. Final score was 2-0 for South Kent Lightning. Shutout goes to James Larsh.
The win brings their record to 3-4-2. This coming week, they only have one scheduled game, against East Lambton Eagles.
