Semi finals decided in a shoot out
It was a great weekend for the South Kent Lightning (Taco Bell) Bantam Reps as they ended up in the semi finals against the East Lambton Eagles in the Rising Stars Tournament held in West Lorne.

Both teams played their best, and were so evenly matched that it came down to a shoot out to determine the winner.  At the end of the third period, both goalies were facing a shut out, and a 5-minute overtime, 4 on 4 played their hardest, but still couldn’t score.  From there, it was shooter vs goalie.  South Kent’s Kolby Caughy put one away in the hopes of moving on to the championship round.  Unfortunately, the Eagles responded with success from their next two shooters taking them to the finals.  It was a nail biter, and the Lightning played an amazing game.

The first game of the tournament was against rivals Dresden Jr. Kings.  In less than a minute in the first period, South Kent’s defenseman, Aiden Rigby broke out to score the first goal.  With less than 4 minutes remaining in the 2nd period, Carter Gates passed over to Cory Beecroft for the 2nd goal.  In the third, Cam Wellington assisted Quinn Pickering who dangled the goalie with success.  To round out the scoring, Beecroft put one on Kolby Caughy’s stick for the final SK goal of the game.  In an effort to come back, Dresden’s Michael Grand and Tanner Rush both scored but it wasn’t enough as South Kent took 4 ½ points for the game.

Lightning then faced North Middlesex Jr. Stars with another great game.  The Stars dominated the first period with a goal 4 minutes in, but the Lightning came back with 2 in the second.  Scoring for South Kent was Mac Anderson and Kolby Caughy.  Caughy also assisted on Anderson’s goal.  In the third, North Middlesex came back to tie it up and then with only 20 seconds on the clock, they put the winning goal away.  Saturday’s second game was against Walkerton Capitals and the Lightning team dominated the entire game.  With a final score of 5-0, South Kent move on to the semi finals on Sunday.  Scoring for the Lightning were Braydon Segeren (unassisted), Quinn Pickering, Kolby Caughy, Jamie Pynenbrouck, and Mac Anderson.  Assists go to Anderson, Cory Beecroft, Ethan Gagnier, Carter Gates (2), Quinn Pickering and James Larsh.  On top of Larsh’s assist, he also got the shut out for the game.

Their last league game, on Wednesday, November 13th ended in a 3-0 loss vs. undefeated South Huron Sabres.  This coming week, they face Ilderton Jets on Friday, November 22nd at 7 pm and North Middlesex Jr Stars on Sunday, November 24th at 7:30 pm, both games in the Ridgetown barn.
