Please read the following written by our fellow Novice coach Jason Ramboer. As well my own words following.
Ronny "Tuukka" Betterley
As most of you will have heard we have lost one of our own tonight.
As God's team is gaining a sturdy defenceman in exchange we received sadness and sorrow.
If we looking a little deeper we will see that we have received much more from our great number 4
Heart
Right until his final games Ronny showed so much heart on the ice, on the bench and in the dressing room. Quoted as saying things like " I am going to get that guy". Or the countless times falling down and getting up as he battled losing some of his balance and motor skills. Remarkable as most times he fought and managed to get his job done and stop the offence.
Courage
What remarkable courage Ronny demonstrated as he fought extremely hard against this terrible disease. He continued to do the things he loved; playing hockey and farming. I am convinced that the tougher things got for Ronny the more determined and courageous he became. When on the ice he knew what he had to do and he was going to get it done. And he expected the same of his teammates.
Compassion
Despite being a courageous little boy with the heart of a lion, Ronny would also show his softer side. As the countless pictures with family, teammates, friends and coaches show Ronny was a loving boy who was always ready for a hug.
Humour
Ronny was a happy boy who was most times smiling and joking around at the arena. He always had this ongoing joke where he would explain that the Bruins were good. We would all just laugh and know he was messing around.
Team
Ronny was a tremendous team member and teammate. He came to the rink ready to give his all and expected the same of his teammates. He would help teammates when needed, like directing them how to line up for a face off. Even after Ronny stopped skating with the team he would come out to cheer us on. He would visit the room for a pep talk and hand out the HULK Helmet post game.
This is a quick little blurb into a little boy who touched all of our lives so much. I know I have learned much more from him than I can teach any of your children. I hope we remember Ronny's life forever with joy, and appreciation for what he has brought to our families lives. Let's mourn for his family, be joyous for Ronny as he is in a better place and remember all we have learned from him while we guide our children.

Jason's words only start to describe a special boy with a magnetic personality that has touched so many people. As we mourn one of our own I am reminded how blessed I am to have made connections with all of your children. I plan to address the team about Ronny passing before our game on Wednesday. I am struggling to find the words and answers to explain to the kids. Our children are learning about a part of life at a vulnerable age. I plan to address it head on, being honest and making myself open to them. If anyone would like something different for your child please let me know so that I can prepare to help them individually. My condolences go out to Ronny's family and everyone he touched. I will keep everyone posted. Thanks. Matt
