Mark Woodley/Len Hoskins Memorial Tournament Day 1
Team ONE started the tournament playing a solid Mitchell Meteors team.

We were a bit short on the bench with only 6 forwards and 3 defencemen but all dug deep and found a way to skate away with a 3-1 victory (I have misplaced the game sheet, but If memory serves goal scorers were James, Colin and Brady Pook, and I know James got an assist on Pooker’s goal). It was impossible to pick a player of the game as the entire team did an outstanding job playing their roles.

Game 2 saw us take on the Port Stanley Sailors, this was possibly one of our best games to date. The score was a direct reflection of how much effort every player put in. 7-1 was the score with 4 different goal scorers. (Jamie, Colin, James and Owen) Assists went to Pooker, JP, Owen, Isaac, Carter and Alex (who really pulled off an incredible feat as he wasn’t even in the building...way to go Alex). I am declaring that the very best goal of the season for our team was scored today. I will be dreaming about it tonight. Jamie started with the puck in our end, saw pressure coming, dished the puck to Robert who immediately identified and passed to an open Parker on the boards by our bench, who identified a streaking Jamie and sent a lead pass just over the blue line to provide a breakaway that JP would not miss on. It all happened so fast and went in so many directions that by the time Port Stanley realized what was happening, the puck was in the net. Obviously Jamie scores lots of goals for us, but this one was only made possible by some incredible hockey players, with outstanding hockey sense setting it up. The saddest part is that the game sheet doesn’t reflect any assists (I guess it was executed so fast that even the refs didn’t see it).  Something else I was really impressed with was our Centermen identifying when our Defence decides to rush the puck, Colin has been the leader in this for the past few games and it has allowed players like James and Robert to work their magic. James was able to capitalize a couple times today with elite type goals. The team forced me to pick a player of the game even though it was another outstanding game from everyone, realizing that Zach was the only player to not win it on our team yet this year made him the gold jersey winner.

Our next game will be at 5pm in Ridgetown against the winner of the South-Kent Team 2 vs Port Stanley game earlier in the day. Until then..

See ya at the Rink,
