The Coaching Staff of the U13 LL#1 Team would like to announce their First-Place finish in the Families First Hockey Tournament hosted by Riverside Minor Hockey at the WFCU Centre, over the long weekend.
Eighteen Teams overall were present to compete for this years U13 Title. Local League #1 played three round robins games defeating Lasalle 4-0, Belle River 3-1 and Aylmer 4-1. After going 3-0 in round-robin play, they moved on to the Quarters against one of the host teams, Riverside Piranhas and earned a win there in a lopsided 5-0 game.
The Lightning competing in the Semi-finals Sunday and came out on top in a real nailbiter against Sault Ste Marie with a score of 3-2. Finally, after a long weekend the championship was played late Sunday afternoon. This match would be against the Sarnia Blue Thunder, but everyone knows that Lightning’s before the Thunder! They prevailed with their third shut out of the weekend in a 2-0 victory. Player of the Tournament honors were given to goaltender, Benson Deschryver.
This concluded the fourth and final tournament of the season for the South Kent U13 LL#1 squad who won 3 golds in all as well as one silver medal finish. They will now work to finish on top of their Four Counties Season when they play West Lorne two more times to close out the playoff round robin play in the coming weeks.
Congrats Local League #1 on your recent victory, it’s well deserved. You have all worked hard for this, all season long!
