U9 MD Head Coaching Application Period - Reopened
Hi Everyone,

Over the last few months, there have been significant changes to the way Hockey Canada and the OMHA will be structuring U8/U9 programming.  Various proposals including tiered house league and a repeat of the U9 MD programming from the 2022/23 year have been put forth.

However, both the OMHA and the Shamrock League have arrived on an alternate solution for the upcoming season.

The OMHA has decided to fold U8 into the U9 year and allow centres to run an MD or Rep team by combining both birth years.  To put it another way, U9 will now have a combined birth year no different than U11, U13 and U15.  For those of you old enough to remember, U9 will now look like Novice did years ago.

So what does this mean for South Kent? It means that for the 2023/24 season, players who were born in both 2015 and 2016 are eligible to tryout, and be given equal consideration, for a U9 MD team.  This team will play in the Shamrock league.  Their season will consist of half ice games until the transition to full ice January 15th, 2024.

Due to these significant and unforeseen changes to the U8/U9 programming we will be offering, the Coaches Committee felt it is appropriate to reopen the coaching application period to all interested candidates.

The application period will close June 30th.
