Congratulations to the Groundhog Champions and Finalists!!!!!  It was a great weekend for the 42nd Annual Groundhog tournament that was held this past weekend Jan 3-5, 2020.

SKMHA was able to host a total of 22 teams this past weekend and games were held at both the East Kent Memorial Arena and Blenheim Memorial Arena.

The Bantam Rep division consisted of 6 teams from Lambton Shores, Mt. Brydges, Paris, Parry Sound, West Lorne and our own South Kent Bantams.  The top 4 teams in this division advanced to the semi where 1st Paris Wolfpack played 4th Parry Sound Shamrocks and 2nd South Kent Lightning played 3rd Mt. Brydges Cougars. The final was between Pairs Wolfpack and the South Kent Lightning.  It was a very tight game of 1-1 till 8:36 in the third where the Wolfpack scored their 2nd goal.  South Kent fought hard to tie it back up but ran out of time. Final was 2-1 for Paris Wolfpack.

The Midget AE division consisted of 4 teams from BCH, Mitchell, Petrolia and Simcoe.  After round robin play, 1st place Petrolia Oilers received a bye to the final and 2nd place BCH Ice Dogs played 3rd place Mitchell Meteors.  Mitchell won the semi-final with a score of 5-0 to advance to the final against Petrolia.  The Mitchell Meteors was able to overtake the Petrolia Oilers with a 4-2 win.

The Midget Rep division consisted of 12 teams.  Pool A was made up of South Kent, Mt. Forest, Norwich and Walkerton.  Pool B was made up of Ingersoll, Mitchell, Shelburne and West Lorne.  Pool C consisted of Kawartha, Mooretown, Simcoe amd South Bruce.  The top 4 teams advanced to the semi-finals and finals.  1st place Simcoe Warriors played 4th place Shelburne Wolves.  The Wolves took this game with a score of 3-1 to advance to the final.  2nd place Ingersoll Express played 3rd place Walkerton Captials.  The Capitals took this game with a score of 3-1 to advance to the final.  The Championship game between the Shelburne Wolves and Walkerton Capitals did not disappoint the fan base as the teams took it to an overtime period to get a winner.  A tripping penalty against the Wolves made the OT a 4 on 3 advantage for the Capitals and they were able to capitalize on that penalty by scoring the game winner 30 sec in on the penalty.  Our own SKMHA Midget Rep ended the weekend with 1 win and 2 losses.

Thank you to all our medal sponsors and ice sponsors as well as volunteers who made this weekend such a huge success.  It could not be done with all of you.

Thank you!
