Now into playoffs, the South Kent Lightning U18 Rep team, sponsored by Taco Bell, are fighting to stay in the top of the standings.

This past week, they played three intense games starting on Monday, Feb 20th against Strathroy Jr. Rockets only to end in a tie.  Strathroy were first to strike near the end of the first period but South Kent came back early in the second period to tie it up.  The goal was scored by Robert Cummings, assisted by Brady Cowell and Carter Gates.  A second SK goal by Quinn Pickering, assisted by Cory Beecroft and Carson May put the Lightning in the lead, but not for long as the Rockets tied it up close to end of the period.  Going into the third, both teams wanted the win and played eagerly with the Rockets taking the lead early in the third.  With less than two minutes left in the game, Ethan Gagnier fired on into the net, assisted by Trent DeCook and Pickering.

South Kent Lightning then played back-to-back games with league leaders East Lambton Eagles.  Friday's game in Alvinston was a let down for the Lightning team as they lost 4-2 against the Eagles who scored early in the first, followed by another.  Cummings found an opportunity to put the Lightning on the board in the last few minutes of the first, assisted by Gagnier.  East Lambton again got the first goal in the second period, but again Cummings was awarded his second of the night, this time assisted by Cowell and James Mifflin.  Finally, East Lambton scored again in the third, sending the Lightning home with a loss.  Saturday afternoon's game at home was a different game in that there was no score until the third period, when East Lambton Eagles found a small space between the goalie's skate and the net, just big enough for the puck.  It was a nail biter for the spectators as this was one of the best games that the U18 Rep team has played this year.

This week will finalize this round of play for the Lightning as they face St. Thomas Jr. Stars B team Monday and Saturday then Strathroy Jr. Rockets on Sunday.
