The South Kent Lightning U18 Rep team, sponsored by Taco Bell, had three games this week with very mixed results.
They started out the week on Mon., Dec. 12th travelling to Dorchester to face the Dragon B team and began their week with a loss, 3-1. Scoring the only goal for South Kent was Carter Gates, assisted by Carson May. Their game against Mooretown Jr. Flags, scheduled for Sat., Dec 17th was cancelled due to lack of referees.
On Sun., Dec 18th, the Lightning faced Ilderton Jets on their home ice in an exciting back and forth game. Ilderton struck late into the first period followed shortly by South Kent. Kolby Caughy got his first goal assisted by Braydon Segeren and Brady Cowell. Ilderton came back in the second to lead the game for the period but three minutes into the third, Jamie Pynenbrouck set up Caughy to get his second of the game. Each team skated away with one point, as we experienced two evenly matched teams play a good game.
Finally, on Mon., Dec. 19th, they played on home ice against Dresden Jr. Kings in what was one of their higher scoring games of the season. The first period started out a little slow but the pace picked up quickly and adrenaline kicked in. Starting the scoring for South Kent was Cory Beecroft who got the first of four goals for the night, this one assisted by Quinn Pickering and Mack Anderson. Less than a minute later, Pickering put one on the board, assisted by Beecroft and Robert Cummings. Dresden snuck one past James Larsh to put their team on the board but Beecroft put another away, unassisted, shortly after. With 3 ½ minutes left in the first, Dresden scored a second, then Pynenbrouck took the face off puck and cleared one past the goalie. To the spectators, that seemed like a hockey game in itself but that was only the first period.
Second and third periods were much like the first. Dresden came on strong with scoring first, followed four minutes later with Anderson’s goal, assisted by Beecroft. Within minutes, Carson May put one away with help from Gates and Ethan Gagnier. Just before the end of the second, Cory Beecroft got his hat trick, unassisted. Moving onto the third, Caughy zinged one past their goalie with assistance from Segeren and Pynenbrouck which was soon followed by Dresden’s goal. Fast forward, less than six minutes to play in this high scoring game, Beecroft earned his fourth goal for the game, assisted by Cam Wellington. Another goal shortly after face off but this time Dresden got one past Daniel Rodger. Finally, with only four minutes left, the last goal of the game was scored by May, assisted by Cowell and Gagnier. With a final score of 10-5, South Kent Lightning pick up a win to end their year on a high note.
Next game will be in January when they face the Lambeth Lancers B team. From the South Kent Lightning U18 Rep team, we wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Safe travels everyone!
