LIGHTNING FRUSTRATE MAROONS
Your Kimberly’s Hearing Lightning started this game on the wrong side of the score card when Lightning Defenseman #5 Josh Flemington was called for hooking at 4:48.

Josh fell a step behind his check and when trying to lift the maroons stick with his when it went up under the armpit of his opponent.  The lightning killed off the penalty and at 7:40 of the 1st period Lightning forward #7 Sam Knowler appeared to have scored the games first goal. However the referee blew the whistle because he thought the Dresden goalie had it covered as it rolled down the goalies back and into the net. The score was tied after one period of play Maroons 0, Lightning 0.

In the second period the Lightning opened the scoring at 12:22 when Lightning Defenseman #5 Josh Flemington moved the puck up the boards out of his zone to Sam Knowler who then raced down the right side and spotted # 8 Brady Pook moving into the slot. Pook made the perfect shot beating the Maroons goalie #10 Kaylee Vlasschaert stick side.  Two minutes  fifty-seven seconds later Sam Knowler put the puck in the net low glove side and this time it counted. At 8:14 still in the 2nd, Lightning #13 Camden Blackburn scored making it 3-0.   Before the 2nd period was out Maroons #7 Griffin Myers would score a greasy goal and #5 Konnor Smith would be given the assist as the two were fighting for a loose puck in front of Lightning goalie #1 Lucas Vidler.

The Lightning continued the attack in the third beginning with #8 Brady Pook scoring at 12:30 and #14 Lukin Paiement getting the only assist. Then #17 Eric Romano tapped in a #3 Joseph Stoner pass at 9:21 making it a 5-1 game.  Dresden Maroons #12 Adam Smith (second in league points) make a number of attempts to even the game but the Lightning’s defence played him close and limited his chances and frustrating him in return.  At one point during the game I watched as he smacked the back of #5 Josh Flemington’s head as the play went up ice to his zone. Josh would get revenge as he would assist on a Lightning’s power-play goal when Jacob Hamilton tip his slap-shot from the blue line making it 6-1.

The game turned ugly after that when Maroon’s #5 Konnor Smith punched Lightning #6 Ryelly Hill in the head while digging in the corner. Ryelly took exception and came back with a two handed slash to the shoulder of Smith and as the two position to fight, the referee quickly reacted by holding the two in a bear hug and preventing further hostilities.  When the dust settled, Lightning defenseman #6 Ryelly Hill received 5 minutes and a 3 game suspension and Maroon’s Forward #5 Konnor Smith received a double minor.

The lightning went out to score on the 4 on 4 when #13 Camden Blackburn would put an Eric Romano pass low glove side to make the score 7-1.   Lightning forward #7 Sam Knowler was called for tripping at 3:40 and Maroon’s #12 Adam Smith would finally get on the score sheet with a power-play goal at 1:55

Final Score: Lightning 7, Maroons 2
