PeeWee 1: What a weekend!
Kimberley’s boys in blue traveled to the bustling metropolis of Dresden this past weekend for the Prestigious Mason Berube Memorial Tournament.

With 6 teams in the PeeWee division, it was sure to be cut throat.

Our first game opened the entire tournament and was a nail biter from start to finish that saw us nearly tie up the game with seconds remaining. We skated off with a respectable 4-3 loss to the Dresden White.

Game 2 against Wallaceburg was a battle of goalies as both earned shutouts in a 0-0 tie through 3 periods and OT.

Game 3 left us with the ability to go to the championship game with a win and a Dresden Maroon loss. The boys in blue lead the game most of the way and with only a few minutes left in Period 3 the West Lorne Comets were able to tie the game up at 2. This game would need overtime we had to score to stay alive. After 3 tense minutes of back and forth hockey K-Mart™ sealed the deal and sent our entire team over the boards as if we had already won the tournament. Many of us waited in anticipation as Dresden White and Dresden Maroon played each other to determine our fate. Assistant Trainer Ald texted me as the buzzer went on a 3-1 Dresden White Victory to ensure our berth into the Championship Game.

Prior to the Championship game the message in the locker room centered around  Pete Conrad, Richard F. Gordon Jr. and Alan Bean (google them if for some strange reason you can’t remember these famous people). Which lead into a lengthy discussion about the 2017 Nashville Predators, Atlanta Falcons, LA Dodgers and Cleveland Cavaliers (all pretty successful sports teams). Trainer Mike followed up the discussions with an incredible interpretive dance that sadly required an interpreter that we couldn’t afford.

Unfortunately either the boys in blue didn’t have enough in the tank, or our cheering section just didn’t have enough cowbell to carry us to glory. Either way second place came with yet another mini stick to add to the collection and a sweet toque (tōk) (that’s a winter hat for those of you to the south). All in all, I am pretty proud of the work our boys did this weekend and I look forward to future tournaments with this group.

Our next game is Saturday at 1:40pm vs. Dresden Maroon back at the scene of our historic run to second place in the Mason Berube Memorial Tournament. Until then..

See ya at the rink,

Coach Scott
