Port Dover Champs!
The South Kent Lightning Peewee Reps, sponsored by Carter Home Hardware, took the Port Dover tournament by storm!

Lightning prevailed as the team worked hard to take every game including two shutouts.  They started the tournament on Friday afternoon facing their billet team of Port Dover and showed no mercy.  Braydon Segeren opened the scoring in the first period with help from Cory Beecroft and Jamie Pynenbrouck.  The second period was owned by the line of Ethan Wolf who scored twice and assisted once, Kolby Caughy with 1 goal, 2 assists and Mac Anderson assisting on all three goals.  Third period scoring with a goal each was Mac Anderson and Jamie Pynenbrouck, both assisted by Cam Wellington.  The 7-0 shutout goes to Daniel Rodger.

Saturday's game against Plattsville was much the same.  The team again played strong defense with Remi Steen, Charlie Tufford, Daniel Beunen, Cam Wellington and Ethan Gagnier all keeping guard over their end.  The only goal scored in the first period was from Quinn Pickering, assisted by Max Reaume, followed by no second period points.  In the third period, they let loose with defenseman Ethan Gagnier starting the scoring, assisted by Segeren and Beecroft.  Pynenbrouck them took a pass from the goalie, James Larsh and skated to another goal.  Finally Wolf finished the period with Wellington's help to put the 4th one on the scoreboard.  South Kent Lightning finished with a 4-0 win and a shutout for Larsh.

Jamie Pynenbrouck participated in the skills clinic at noon which consisted of timed lap around the ice, shooting drill and obstacle course.  Of the 8 peewee participants, he finished first and got his name on the plaque.

The chuck a puck contest winner was our very own Braydon Segeren who won himself a Hamilton Bulldogs jersey for the closest to centre ice.

The team was still on their game going into Sunday's match against Cayuga, knowing they could end up in the finals and their efforts paid off.  Brett Davidson put them on the scoreboard in the first with Wellington's help, then Beecroft scored their second, assisted by Segeren.  The second period was owned by the Lightning as they put 4 past the goalie with goals scored by Max Reaume, Ethan Wolf with 2, 1 of which was unassisted, then the last one by Segeren.  Assisting the scorers were Beunen, Davidson, Anderson, Beecroft and Pynenbrouck.  Cayuga came back in the third to rob Rodger of the shutout and finish the game with a 6-1 victory putting them in the Championship game against Penatang.

At 6 pm Sunday, the Championship game was on and not looking good for the Lightning as Penatang opened the scoring in the first putting 2 between the pipes.  With under a minute of play left in the 1st, Ethan Wolf found the netting and began the streak, assisted by Kolby Caughy.  The second period was back and forth with a huge effort from both teams but the scoreboard didn't see any action. The third period changed everything.  Ethan Wolf put one away to tie the game, assisted by Caughy, then Segeren scored the go ahead goal, with Pynenbrouck's help.  Rounding out the third was the Wolf-Caughy duo, bringing hats tossed on the ice in honour of Wolf's hat trick.  The team won the Championship and brought home Thomas Butler Memorial trophies back to South Kent.  Congratulations team, and coaching staff of Glenn Anderson, Brian Boersma, Neil Martin & John Beunen.
