Atom Home Run Finish with a Strong Effort
The Atom Home Run Restaurant travelled to Mooretown to finish out the year.  The game featured lots of action at both ends as well as some score board controversy. The game finished with an unofficial score of 7-7, although it might actually have been a 4-3 loss for the Southkent crew.

The game featured some lineup changes as well as kids playing with different line mates.  The newly formed line, "Chicks with Sticks", featured Karys centering Katelyn and Laurel.  This line was put together after they dominated the boys in Fridays 3 on 3 practice.
Southkent got on the board 10 seconds into the game as Ethan McClenaghan took the puck from his own end and made a rush down the ice, picking the corner on a hard shot, assisting on the goal was Trent Smith.  This 1-0 lead held up into the second when the "Chicks with Sticks" line persistent pressure was rewarded.  Katelyn DeBrouwer scored her first of the year when she pounced on a rebound.  Picking up the assists were Karys Van De Wiele and Laurel Johnston.  Mooretown answered back shortly afterwards but Brennen Dodman restored the 2 goal lead with a great individual effort, skating the length of the ice and finding the back of the net. Mooretown then chipped away at the lead until they took a late 4-3 lead.  This is where things got interesting.  A confusing line change when Evan White was pulled and Southkent sent too many kids on.  They applied the pressure until they were whistled for too many men late.  During the addition of the penalty, the scoreboard was changed to a 4-4 tie.  After a brief discussion, it was agreed to settle the confusion with a shootout.  Both teams made great saves and scored some huge goals to keep the crowd entertained.  As both teams were forced to use all kids on the bench to settle the score, it appeared that Southkent took the game 7-6.  Once again the scoreboard glitch reappeared.  Both team's officials discussed their options, as both teams had used all their available shooters, the only reasonable solution was to have the goalies resolve this issue.  Evan White went first to an arena noise similar to a NHL playoff game.  Evan lumbered down the ice and made a great move, but the Mooretown keeper was up to the task.  Evan was then forced to make a game saving save on the Mooretown keeper and the game finished in a 7-7 tie, I think??
Great effort all year kids and you should all be proud of your efforts.
Thanks
Scott
